What is a phobia ?
A phobia is a noun gathering a lot of neurotic troubles which can be spreaded, most oftenly characterized by an irrational fear in some situations or in front some things. People who are affected by this trouble have issues to overcome this fear and want to avoid facing the source of their phobias. It’s sometimes difficult them when the source of the fear is very common, like rain.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS ? :
The symptoms usually appears immediately after the contact with the source of the phobia. However, in some cases, just thinking about the source or hearing a word related to it can trigger a crise.
Themost common symptoms are:
-Increased heart rate (accelerated heartbeats)
-shivers
-hot flushes
-tingling of the skin
-stun (blackout)
-sweating
-shaking
-muscle pain
CAUSES :
We think that 10 percent population are suffering of phobias, even if it’s difficult to know exactly how many people are affected by phobias because they don’t always consult for their fears. ⅔ of phobic people are women. For example, women are more likely than men to have the fear of animals. The sources of a phobia can change according to the age of the person.
The phobias are mostly growing during childhood, generally because a choc or a stress. The child associates one element to this choc. If he fears this element, he fears the stress’s reproduction.Some phobias are also earned by copying, the child can took the fear of someone in his environnement. Indeed, if his mother is arachnophobic, he have more chances to have the fear of spiders too.
In the two cases, phobia is a mechanism from evolution which protect us from the danger.
But we mustn’t confound this phobias with the fears that all children know and which disappear with age, like the fear of darkness. This fear are normals and aren’t negatives for the child.
